The Audiphilleo lands!

Let's just say I have been waiting. Customs charged me VAT and Parcelforce ignored my delivery instructions and left it at my local post office, which operates 9-5:30 with an hour's lunch break whilst I work 30 miles away and don't get home until 7pm.

Sigh

But here it is and its working. Simple to set up - plug in, select the output device on my Mac, and hit 'play' on Decibel. The Audiophilleo 2 is just a box that does stuff, the more expensive '1' has digital volume and a 'cable simulator' and can add jitter to illustrate some kind of point, but I just wanted to have a better sound, and save money of course.

Initial impressions, compared to the previous solution which was an optical connection from the MacBook headphone socket into the back of the DacMagic

1. More detail, more space, more timbre
2. Brighter. Needs to run in?
3. Not necessarily any more musical. Again, needs to run in?

But this is with less than 60 minutes of playing. For background listening, the brightness is noticable but so is the obvious increase in detail retrieval. I will leave it running in a loop for a few days and then listen critically. Pics to follow
